The story
From a ruin in the fields to Casa de Sonho
Two king bedrooms, basalt walls and a 600 m² garden above the Mosteiros coast — with the ocean in front of you and the Sete Cidades crater at your back.
When we found it, this house was a roofless shell of volcanic stone — an old horse stable and farmhouse slowly sinking back into the hillside above Mosteiros.
Through 2022 and 2023 we rebuilt it by hand: the volcanic-stone walls stayed, a new roof of cryptomeria wood went on, and a kitchen now joins the two old buildings into one warm, quiet home. The name was the easy part — Casa de Sonho, house of dreams.
There is no traffic here. The lane sees a car an hour, the neighbours grow corn, and at night the loudest thing is the ocean.
